About Dayron Pérez

Dayron Pérez-Almodóvar is a Weather Analyst and Citizen Scientist from Yauco, Puerto Rico. His passion for meteorology began at a young age, driven by a fascination with hurricanes, tornadoes and atmospheric sciences.

Since 2019, Dayron has built and managed weather communities dedicated to inform and educate the public, including a Facebook audience of over 20,000 followers and a regional group reaching nearly half a million members across Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. He also contributed in the past as an editor to platforms such as Weather News PR and Centro Meteorológico de Puerto Rico y el Caribe. Perez also founded Centro Nacional de Meteorología MX (@cnmetmx) for Mexico and Central America, now led by Franklin Arceo from Protección Civil - Quintana Roo, and the now-defunct Storm Tracker PR (previously known as Centro Meteorológico de PR).

In 2021, he was certified as a SKYWARN Storm Spotter through the COMET/MetED UCAR program and later in the 2024 as an Advanced SKYWARN Storm Spotter through the National Weather Service - Weather Forecast Office of New Orleans/Baton Rouge online training course. In 2023, he was part of the Puertorriqueños en las Ciencias Atmosféricas y Meteorología (PCAM) and EcoExploratorio: Museo de Ciencias de Puerto Rico summer weather camp. In February 2023, he became a NOAA Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador and since March 2023 has been a CoCoRaHS Volunteer, running the very first precipitation data collection station in Yauco under that program. . In 2025, he was certified by the Puerto Rico Seismic Network (PRSN) Tsunami Education program after taking both courses of Tsunamis and Puerto Rico Tsunami Maps.

In October 2025, he earned a diploma from the U.S. Army Transportation School at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, after successfully completing the Motor Transportation Operator course. In December 2025, he received certification from Ingeomex after completing the course on Meteorological and Climatological Data Processing and Analysis in Python.

In addition to his meteorological work, he serves as a Motor Transport Operator / Heavy Vehicle Driver (88M) since 2025 in the U.S. Army National Guard and continue his academic journey at Ponce Health Sciences University (PHSU) in Nursing Sciences.
